There are 2 types - reversible and irreversible.

Irreversible is used to cause cell death and is used to “cut away” cancers etc:

Reversible is used to break open cell walls temporarily so that DNA and other stuff can be inserted into the cell:

Drawbacks include cell death though and fusing of cells together - doesn’t this sound like some cancers?
