Self-driving trucks - nearer than we think
I'd better get used to just being a grunt to do the heavy lifting
Self-driving trucks are nearer than we think - even if it’s just for trunking.

I recall discussing this in one CPC after I had seen a few of the test convoys going up the M6 in the early hours and got told by the others “will never happen”.
I said it will initially for trunking as that is straight depot to depot as they don’t have robots capable to load/unload like you do when doing pallets and multi-drops at the moment so start thinking of that, we may all end up just being a “driver’s mate” in years to come as the truck drives from stop to stop itself and all we do is the grunt work.

And the guys in the CPC said I was nuts.
And they are taking over monitoring of offshore production offshore and wind farms and also drilling rig operations so less crew needed there as well:
