So was the issuing of the EUA for the Pfizer SARS-CoV-2 injection a political "request"?
Looks like it to me.
I've just noticed in this MHRA document, page 5:
In a letter dated November 17th 2020, the DHSC requested authorisation, on a temporary basis, of its proposed supply of a vaccine manufactured by Pfizer/BioNTech collaboration, named “COVID-19 mRNA Vaccine BNT162b2”, under Regulation 174 of the Human Medicines Regulations 2012, (“the Regulations”).
So it was a "political" request for the EUA to be issued as the Secretary of State for Health is in charge of the DHSC, at this time it was one Matthew John David Hancock.
The date also means that at the time there was AT MOST 6 weeks of officially recognised trial data available - which is not very much at all is it?
Next question might be: who exactly within DHSC signed off on that request?
We know the request was to Hancock, but it might be significant to know who the request was from? Then we might be able to ask them specifically why they requested it. Trouble is, they're all as slippery as eels. Very hard to pin down responsibility. But you're worrying away at them like a terrier with a shoe! The truth will out eventually.
